About Candy Mayer

Candy Mayer Candy Mayer moved to Alabama in 2023. She is developing new work inspired by her new home. She will still create landscapes and still lifes of the Southwest and the borderland in pastels, acrylics, pen and ink, and mixed media collage. Her themes include scenes from El Paso, TX, Dia de los Muertos and religious icons. She has created 2 Loteria games... El Paso and Dia de los Muertos. Candy has a BFA in Art and Art Education from the University of South Dakota.

When they moved to the border from Iowa in 1999, Candy and her photographer husband, Charlie, embraced the area, traveling extensively in Mexico and the Southwest. They held their first joint show, 'Alma de Mexico-Caras y Paisajes,' at the Chamizal National Memorial in March, 2008.
She has exhibited and won recognitions in competitions, including the Arts International, the Sun Bowl, the Paquime Festival in Casas Grandes, Mexico and many EPAA events. She participated in an international show, 'Mujeres sin Fronteras...Women without Borders' sponsored by the Mexican Consulate in El Paso.
Three of her works traveled to the Department of Interior Gallery in Washington, D.C. as part of the 'Along the Rio Grande' show.
Her work is available at her home studio, area arts show and she still has her work in several shops in El Paso.
Candy has held two one woman shows at Hal Marcus, 'Images of Italy' in 2004 and 'Travels in Mexico' in 2006. In July, 2007, she returned to her hometown in Iowa for a one woman show,
'Borders,' at the Lakes Art Center.
In October, 2008, Candy was inducted into the Hall of Achievement as an Outstanding Graduate of
the Spirit Lake High School in Iowa.
